Peer Vink

The art of Peer Vink (1990, NL) is a response to the dominant visual culture and how it is shaped in an age of social media and Artificial Intelligence. Vink has a great fascination for how meaning and images arise and uses a personal image archive to investigate the underlying systems that form the basis for this. By bringing together separate visual elements and slowing them down in an artistic creative process, Vink transforms them into solidified, previously invisible forces.

 

Vink's paintings, sculptures and installations make us reflect on the way images are used to display success. The obsessive conflation of happiness and success results in shiny facades where apparent luxury is not enough to conceal the underlying emptiness and vulnerability.
