Peter Vos

Peter Vos (1975, NL) draws inspiration for his art from his fascination with and dedication to nature and the animal world. A recurring theme in Vos's oeuvre is his portraits of animals, particularly birds. We find ourselves face to face with the animals; not in their natural environment, but in a warm, neutral void and in close-up. This allows us to focus all our attention on their individual charisma and character. A strong personality is conveyed through the eyes, the gaze, the posture, subtle use of colour and precise textures.

Vos's precision and dedication are also evident in the landscapes and drawings he creates. References and meanings are hidden in the elaborate details. Sometimes Vos refers directly to the past, and there is evidently a certain melancholy in his work. By deliberately omitting details and stylising forms, an abstract dimension emerges within Vos's realism. This contributes to the contemporary and timeless quality of his work, allowing him to focus on the soul of his subjects with an appealing aesthetic.
