V&B: A Gathering of Conditions

The 2-fold brain of the artist duo V&B (Alex Jacobs and Ellemieke Schoenmaker) has built up an adventurous oeuvre from both technical and conceptual inspiration and research. 

The duo never ceases to marvel at man's relationship with his/her environment, (genesis) history and future. The pigmented plaster sculptures and plaster paintings on view in the exhibition ‘A Gathering of Conditions’ are driven by the slow processes that led to the origin of the earth and life on it. By building up and sanding down many layers of pigmented plaster, restoring and drawing, a polished surface is created.  

These visual haptic sensations are important factors for their ability to experience new relationships and sensibilities with the world around us. That which cannot be seen but can be felt.

 

'.....how it would feel like to be a boulder; what it was like when dinosaurs walked the Earth. Stones might not be able to speak, but they do tell us something and we ought to listen. Because, even though we do not know much about being-ness outside of human beings, we better try and imagine it....'
